June First Thursday: New exhibitions, live music, and more!

Kick off summer at ARTS at King Street Station on June 4 for Pioneer Square’s First Thursday Artwalk! The evening will feature live music and dancing on the King Street Station plaza with Joe Brazil Legacy and a Mobile Book Fair and Zine Library by Common Area Maintenance.

In addition to the plaza festivities, join us in the gallery to celebrate the opening of three exhibitions: This Room is Ours: Centering the Black Figure, Ancestral Future: Taíno Archives, and the 2025 SDOT Bridge Artists in Residence Showcase. Read more about the shows and programs below!

ARTS at King Street Station Wednesday through Saturday, 11 AM – 5 PM and until 8 PM on First Thursdays. Admission is always free. The gallery is located at 303 S Jackson St, Top Floor, Seattle, WA 98104.


This Room is Ours: Centering the Black Figure

This Room is Ours: Centering the Black Figure, curated by Lila Alexis Thomas, features their work alongside Seattle-based artists Kamari Bright, Le’Ecia Farmer, Nahom Ghirmay, Adrienne Matthews, and Ric’kisha Taylor, presenting figurative works that center the Black body in moments of joy, stillness, ease, and empowered presence.


2025 SDOT Bridge Artists in Residence Showcase

June 4 – Aug. 8, 2026

Animation artists Vivian Cho and Freyja Whitney took over the historic towers of the Fremont and University Bridges to create works showcasing our bridges and communities in inventive ways. The culmination of those residencies will be on view at ARTS at King Street Station.


Ancestral Future: Taíno Archives

June 4 – Aug. 8, 2026

Ancestral Future: Taíno Archives is a multidisciplinary exhibition exploring Taíno, Arawak, and Borikén (Puerto Rican) identity through Indigenous futurism. Spanning two floors and featuring artists Gabriel-Bello Díaz, Adrian Pacheco, and Brenda Palomino, the exhibition brings together fashion garments, mixed-material accessories, photography, sculpture, and augmented reality (AR) to create an immersive, living archive.


The Living Legacy of Joe Brazil

5:30-7:30 PM

A tribute to the enduring vision and impact of legendary jazz musician, educator, and community builder Joe Brazil, this concert series remembers a giant whose shoulders we stand upon to build our future, featuring live music and dance on the King Street Station plaza.


Mobile Book Fair and Zine Library

6-8 PM

Free zines, books, artist-made publications, and participatory workshops furnish this book fair on the King Street Station plaza. Featured zines and printed works explore hope for the future through the lens of secret histories and overlooked stories from Seattle’s pocket neighborhoods.
