Still-frame of "Life In The Cut" by Freyja Whitney On view June 4 – Aug. 8, 2026
Reception: June 4, 2026, 5-8 PM
The Seattle Office of Arts & Culture, in partnership with the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), selected artists Vivian Cho and Freyja Whitney for the 2025 SDOT Bridge Artist in Residence Program. These two animation artists took over the historic towers of the Fremont and University Bridges to create works showcasing our bridges and communities in inventive ways. The culmination of those residencies is now on view at ARTS at King Street Station.
About the Artists
Vivian Cho is a visual designer and animator based in Seattle whose work includes themes of identity, nature, and digital nostalgia. Their practice is driven by curiosity and a love for experimentation, often exploring ways to synthesize 2D and 3D digital art with analog techniques. A recent graduate of the University of Washington’s Visual Communication Design program, Vivian has previously worked as a motion design intern at Netflix and a visual designer at the Jacob Lawrence Gallery. Currently, they are a staff designer at ARCADE NW Publishing, while also continuing to develop their independent practice and personal design and animation projects.
Freyja Whitney is a trans-femme, animator, illustrator, and designer, based out of Seattle. She creates animations for movies, short films, branding videos, explainer animations, and music videos. Using an unconventional combination of digital art, hand drawn animation and printmaking techniques, Freyja makes art that explores gender identity, sexuality, industrialization, and global climate change.
