Introducing Artist in Residence Ashley Ponce

"Warrior" and "Sister Tongues" by Ashley Ponce, 2025.

We’re excited to announce the new ARTS at King Street Station Artist in Residence, Ashley Ponce! She will be taking over the AiR Space from April 2 to May 30, 2026.

Ashley Ponce is a Seattle-based technologist and multimedia artist of Peruvian and Cuban American heritage. Drawing from ancient Peruvian textile traditions and her background in computer science engineering from Princeton University, her work blends traditional materials with contemporary technology. Her practice explores how technology reflects the identities of its makers, challenging representation in technological spaces.

Through interactive robotic sculptures inspired by traditional Peruvian textiles, Ponce challenges dominant ideas of who builds technology and what technology is meant to look like. By weaving textiles, motion, and engineering, Ponce imagines alternative technological futures shaped by voices and identities excluded from the mainstream.
