Community gathered on December 7th at the Cornish Playhouse for the opening reception of the Hope Corps 2023 Exhibition, curated by Alexis L. Silva and featuring 15 Hope Corps artists: Joanne Cha, Alisa Cruz, Chris Daigre, Ashanti David, Grace Flott, Rebecca O’Neill, Shin Yu Pai, Daniel Pak, Julian Peña, Bennyroyce Royon, Ian Shearer, Miya Sukune, Vivid Matter Collective and Moses Sun, and Stewart Wong. Hope Corps Artists Christina Dietz (Briar) and Totem Star performed at the reception.
Curator Alexis L. Silva was MC for the evening and guests enjoyed performances by Christina Dietz (Briar) and band members, Totem Star, and opening remarks from Seattle Office of Arts & Culture (ARTS) Director Gülgün Kayim.
Due to our societal inequities, we know that many artists and creative workers never receive enough exposure, recognition, support, and frankly, dollars – during the pandemic especially. That we could provide living wages to artists who were not only critical to our local creative economy, but contribute immensely to our creative spirits, connections amongst us, and our healing – truly, there is no monetary value to be placed on this.

The goals of our ARTS 2023 Hope Corps Program are to support unemployed and underemployed creative workers and artists and reinvigorate our creative sector as we recover from the pandemic. We are proud to support all these artists and their work.
