Montgomery_StarsThe Seattle Office of Arts & Culture’s year-long collaborative art collective ALL RISE will present new site-specific text and light works by Robert Montgomery from July 25 through September 5, on their campus at 1250 Denny Way in downtown Seattle, the site of the future Seattle City Light Denny Substation.

Robert Montgomery, a London-based artist, poet and interventionist, is known for ephemeral works that are intended to be experienced like the advertisements his medium critiques. Montgomery was the British artist for the 2012 Kochi-Muziris Biennale in India and has made billboard series for Berlin, London, Paris and Los Angeles.

This installation is his first in the Northwest, organized by ALL RISE as an associated off-site project of the Seattle Art Fair (July 30-Aug. 2). Montgomery will light the project for the first time on Saturday, July 25 at 8 p.m. at the ALL RISE site, at 1250 Denny Way. No RSVP required. Montgomery’s project, “THE STARS PULLED DOWN FOR REAL” activates the 90,000 square-foot outdoor ALL RISE site with a series of six billboards installed on oversized plinths at Denny Way, a highly visible traffic route, and a 20’ x 24’ text/light work on scaffolding installed with the city as backdrop.

ALL RISE is commissioned with Seattle City Light 1% for Art funds and administered by the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture.
