Event to explore how to talk about public value of the arts, June 24

Join us to explore how your organization, and the cultural sector as a whole, can make a better case for the public value of arts and culture at Dynamic Adaptability 2.0: How Do We Talk about the Public Value of the Arts?, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., June 24 at Town Hall. The event is free. Register here.

Speakers will share their experience with what works — and what doesn’t — in communicating about the value of culture in the context of campaigns for public funding. The lessons they will share are useful for any organization that wants to communicate more effectively with donors, audience members and the general public.

Speakers are: Tom Schorgl from the Community Partnership for Arts and Culture in Ohio; Sheila Smith from the Minnesota Citizens for the Arts; and Michael Rushton, associate professor and director of the arts administration program at Indiana University and an economist and public policy expert who specializes in the public value of the arts.

Several local arts leaders, including Jim Kelly from 4Culture, Kris Tucker from Washington State Arts Commission, and a representative from the Cultural Access Fund will reflect on how we can strengthen the role of the arts in our local communities.

The event is sponsored by the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture, Boeing, 4Culture, and U.S. Bank in partnership with Helicon and Philanthropy Northwest.

Dynamic Adaptability 2.0 was launched in 2010 by a consortium of regional funders after a survey of cultural leaders in the region revealed a desire to gather with colleagues and discuss shared issues around navigating change.
