Seattle seeks artist to create artwork for Mercer Street underpass

The Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), seeks an artist to develop site-specific artwork for the Mercer West street improvement project. The artwork will be located in an underpass and along adjacent concrete retaining walls at Mercer Street and Aurora Avenue. The desired artistic approach will treat the underpass as a singular architectural environment and transform the experience of passing through the space for all modes of transit.

The call is open to professional artists residing in the United States. Public art experience is required. The estimated budget is $335,000 all-inclusive to design and fabricate the artwork. Application deadline is 11 p.m. Wednesday, August 25. To preview the call and access the online application, go here.

The artwork project is funded with SDOT 1% for Art funds.
