Supporting the Art You Love Keeps Seattle Arts and Culture Strong

Did you know that when you attend certain events and venues in Seattle, 5% of your ticket price goes towards the City’s Arts and Culture Fund? It’s called the Admission Tax.

This is the fund that we use to support artists and organizations through our grants. If you were one of the 610 people who attended IMMININENT MODE’s wearable art runway show at ARTS at King Street Station, that was funded by the Admission Tax too.

It also provides unrestricted funding for conservation of public art in Seattle’s Civic Art Collection. And it allows us to offer arts education to all students in Seattle Public Schools through The Creative Advantage.

The Seattle Municipal Code states that the Office of Arts & Culture use this money to:

  • Keep artists living, working, and creatively challenged in Seattle
  • Build community through the arts, and create opportunities for the public to intersect with artists and their work
  • Include art opportunities for youth in and out of school

Amazing, isn’t it? That by seeing Wicked in theaters, cosplaying at Emerald City Comic Con, going to Seattle Symphony to hear them cover Radiohead, and more, you are directly helping us to build and sustain Seattle’s creative sector.

Learn more about the Admission Tax on History Link and how we reinvest it back into Seattle’s arts and culture. And keep doing your thing! Supporting the art you love supports our city and the artists who live and work here. “In the name of the Moon!”
