In 2022, ARTS awarded 25 artists from disciplines with $185,000 in funding to create art across Seattle. These investments in art and artists contribute to the recovery and resiliency of our city. Two artists, Ellen Solod and David Quantic, presented their work at the CityArtist Shareout in September 2022.

Ellen Solod’s The Book of Small Regrets was created in response to the COVID-19 crisis when even the smallest mistakes could seem catastrophic. Sollod tapped her social network to contribute their own small regrets, impulse purchases and “comfort” foods to which they turned to manage their pandemic anxiety. These acted as prompts for the creation of the book.

David Quantic created a short documentary titled It’s Not a Phase. Quantic gathered his past podcast interviews of female-identified, trans, non-binary, and genderqueer interviewees and edited a 10-minute film that features them sharing thoughts about first sexual experimentations, first love, and lessons that interviewees have learned about sex and intimacy since coming out. The film debuted at the Passionfruit event which was also supported by the CityArtist grant.

The CityArtist grant ensures that individual artists, makers, and curators, can develop and adapt their talents as they continue in their professional growth and business insight. Providing financial support for creative entrepreneurs contributes to the broader economy and quality of life across the City.
