Introducing the newest Arts Commissioner

We are pleased to announce that Amy Piñon is joining the Seattle Arts Commission as the “Get Engaged” member of the commission. Get Engaged is a YMCA program that places young adults ages 18-29 on city of Seattle boards and commissions for one-year terms starting in September of each year.  Amy Piñon is a dedicated vocalist, audio engineer, and teaching artist. Toward the end of her education at The Art Institute of Seattle, she learned that she had a passion for teaching and  designed an audio curriculum for her Senior Portfolio instead of creating an audio piece. Since attaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Audio Design Technology, she has set out to use her degree and skill set to create access to recording arts for youth.

Amy spent the past year working with Arts Corps as an Artist-in-Service for the Creative Schools Initiative, a program that places teaching artists in public schools to integrate arts into the traditional curriculum. She leads the Sounds of Science summer camp at the Pacific Science Center and runs sound for Rain City Rock Camp for Girls. She is an active volunteer, member, and teacher at The Vera Project and has held internships at Vera, The Recording Academy, and Seattle Theatre Group.

She has been singing since she could speak and currently writes and performs music with her duo band, I’m with Amy, whose music has been licensed to Starbucks and MTV. Welcome to the Commission, Amy!DSC_4604 small
