Upcoming events funded through our SmART ventures program

Below is a selection of events that our office has funded for the month through our smART ventures funding program. SmART ventures is a Seattle-based, flexible awards program that encourages innovative ideas, creates community impact, and provides new access for individuals and groups not served by our other programs. SmART ventures seek to widen arts and cultural participation, particularly of diverse or underserved communities. We hope to see you at one of these great events!

A Meeting in an Unusual Place
Choreographer Benjamin Maestas presents a performance installation that attempts to bridge the gap between dance, installation art and architecture by exploring the relationships between these fields and searching for ways that each field can share information to inform the other.

Seattle Summer Butoh Festival

A month of (mostly) free site-specific performances in Seattle (and Snoqualmie) starting at the Aug. 1 TK Artwalk Galaanza and including a Nature-Based Butoh Teaching and Performance Fest at Butopia on Whidbey Island.

Song of Myself

The first in a literary event series that features performers reading famous, beloved works of literature.  The evening will feature performances of Walt Whitman’s “Song of Myself” at the Fremont Abbey Arts Center.

Moroccan Poet El Habib Louai Visits Seattle

El-Habib-Louai

SICA, the Subud International Cultural Association, is delighted to welcome El Habib Louai to the Northwest for a series of readings and talks at various venues in August. El Habib Louai is a Beat scholar from Agadir, Morocco, and is working on translating the poems of Allen Ginsberg and other U.S. poets into Arabic.

AMDEF 2013

AMDEF is an annual event that brings together the communities of Art, Music, Dance, Entertainment and Fashion for a one-night-only experience. Each year highlights a variety of artists collaborating outside of their genre to produce ove six hours of non-stop, mixed media performances. AMDEF 2013 will be a benefit for Social Outreach Seattle.  Tickets are $15.
